The disruptive impact of digital business sparked many great conversations at our CIO Perspectives Virginia event last week. “Whoever wins digital, wins banking,” said Brian Cobb, managing VP of IT at Capital One, the largest online bank in the U.S. “The world is opening up for us as more customers come through digital channels.”

“We’re at a critical moment in the digital age,” added Dion Hinchcliffe, chief strategy officer at IT consultancy Adjuvi. While many companies invest 5 percent to 10 percent of their budgets in IT, business leaders are increasingly dissatisfied with the results.

“We’ve automated, but have we transformed? Have we digitized? CEOs are tired of waiting,” Hinchcliffe warned. “They’re hiring CDOs [chief digital officers] to exploit systems and knowledge.”

Below this note you’ll find additional highlights, resources and presentation links from our sessions on digital disruption, innovative millennials, cybersecurity and more. Make sure to check out Staff Writer Lauren Brousell’s short video interviews with the CIOs of Christiana Care Health System, Georgetown University and SAIC, as they share the business impact of digital disruption on their organizations.

You can also watch a recording of a Google Hangout that the hosts of CXO Talk conducted with Federal Communications Commission CIO David Bray and White House Deputy CIO Alissa Johnson. Their clever approaches to IT innovation under federal government strictures will inspire you.

I hope we’ll see you at our next two summertime events: CIO Perspectives Boston on Aug. 6th and the CIO 100 Symposium, Aug. 17-19th in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.
